On My Mind

Midnight thoughts

Intrude on seductive sleep

And push it away,

Pulling my mind

Into a late night tango

Of past moments and parallels.

This exhausting dance,

My body moving to the tempo,

Keeps moving to the music

Until my legs can’t keep up.

These thoughts,

These nights,

These unforgettable moments

Make for mental messes

To be ignored- an insomniac’s gift-

Until the next late night

Where my mind won’t stop dancing

To the beats of the past.

Where We Came From

Let’s reminisce

About the days

When we were old enough

To know better

But young enough

Not to care.

When we spent

Our hard earned money

On temporary satisfaction

Gone as soon

As they’d been obtained.

Liquid courage

To get us through

The days to come-

And the only things

We have to show

For our mistakes

Are the friendships

That made us stronger

And the lessons

We’ll never forget.

Extraordinary You

You are more
Than the sum
Of your lessons
Since the beginning of your time,
Stepping stones that lead
To potential
Forks, pitfalls, and hills
On this journey of life.

You are more
Than the difference
Of past and future colliding
The Impossible distance
From where you’ve been
And the peaks you’ve conquered
To where you’ll go
Speeding ahead into the unknown.

You are more
Than the quotient
Of your loved ones
Provided by a lottery
Good or bad
And the ones you choose
To reveal yourself to
Based on circumstance.

You are more
Than the product
Of society and individuality,
Pressure and instinct,
Colluding with each other
In public and in private
To create a version of yourself
For your success.

You are more
Than a complex equation
Of contradictories
That takes time and patience
For a solution.

You are more.
You are so much more.

New

A metamorphosis

Shedding skin

Beauty

And youthful wonder

To gain something more mature.

It’s not abandoning the old

But keeping it in a memory box

Pulling out the past

To renew

Become anew.

Passed

I wonder

What my life would be

Had I never met you.

It would have been bliss

Not to endure

The lie, fights, pain

And ignorance.

But where would I be today

If I hadn’t been

By your side

When no one else was?

Would I know how

To support myself and others?

Would I love to teach growth?

Would I love to heal

Tender wounds with tender words?

Are these traits

Ingrained in me

Or were they gifts from the past?

Viper

Her scales-

       A delicate balance

       Between  lust&grace

       And a fatal endless agony

Smooth to the touch

Thick as the fear and desire

Her forked tongue tastes

In the air.

She’s beautiful

And she’s got her sights set on you.

She’s poised

Statuesque

But before you know it

She strikes

Leaving you

Without the hope of survival.

Re-Introduction

He saw her, the great white buffalo,

The only woman who had escaped Bill’s

Grasp. When she left, he had become defunct.

Seeing her again was like witnessing a child who

Was unaware of their surroundings, but used

Their childhood to

Their full advantage. A ride

That would end a

Lot faster than the watersmooth-silver

Of the moon on the horizon, or a lone stallion

Finding a new herd and

Feeling alive once more. Her eyes break

Away from his… onetwothreefourfive

Seconds before she realizes its him. Pigeonsjustlikethat,

She thinks as she moves toward him. As he stares at her dumbfounded. Jesus,

What was she about to do?

He

Was

A

Handsome

Man

But she had known men like him before and

They had never been what

She expected. “I

just want…”

I don’t know what to

Do, she shakes her head, I don’t know

“All I know is

Right now is the only thing we have for sure. How

Do we proceed?” He stares at her a minute more. “Do

You know how long I’ve waited for you?

How long I’ve waited for you to look at me like

You never wanted to lose me again? Gazing at me with your

Gorgeous blueeyed

Soul.” It was true, he was now a man that had developed from a boy.

He had grown, he was mature. “I’ll be your Mister”

He grins and thinks, ’til death.

Demise

I see a girl with emerald eyes

That glisten and ensnare

The world with it’s skies

Without the slightest care,

Free from what’s soon to destroy her.

I see a girl with eyes so cool

For they’ve seen the world fall

To armies so cruel

That they’ll take it all

Away for the chance to entrap her.

I see you with your eyes cast down

A single glance and I peruse

A distinctly permanent frown

From the emotional abuse

That you let yourself go through.

The Life of Man

There’s a man at the top of the hill

Just sitting

Maybe he’s resting-

His tired limbs, tired body

Carrying such a heavy soul

So close to the sky.

Maybe he’s reflecting-

His mind stuck wandering

Between past and present

And all the things he would change.

Maybe he’s retiring-

Giving up on the life

That was so harsh to him

Starting a new one in tune with nature.

I don’t know why he’s there.

Maybe he doesn’t either.

Indecisive Tango

In front of me

You stand

In black and white

A 50’s dream

With suit-clad arms by your side

Raising up

As if lifted by clouds

To rest on my generous hip

And outstretched hand

As the music begins.

Behind me

Stands my past

With magnified eyes

Waiting for me to get lost

In the distraction of music

And misstep

Landing a sharp-as-a-knife-heel

In the heart of your foot

So they can shout

I KNEW SHE WOULD HURT YOU!

But what’s behind you?

I can’t see

For the room is too dark

From the extinguishing sneers of my past

Reducing the fiery passion

Creating tension between your body

And my own.

But I want to know so badly

Regardless of how hard you try

To stand in my way

I’ll step to the right

And see your face

I’ll step to the left

And you’re there with me.

Hold me close until the song ends

Until then,

We’ll keep dancing

In time and rhythm

Side to side.
