Crafty Child

Bright-eyed young girl,
Curious and crafty,
Let’s start a project and learn to crochet.

Tiring quickly,
She abandoned the lesson.
She couldn’t see past the first stitch-
Obsessed with chains, with growing taller,
The neverending line of connection
So easily unfurled.

Chains, chains, chains.
Chains everywhere and every day.
Quickly and carefully created by this crafty girl
And unraveled even faster,
The impermanence of childhood
Displayed through her repetitive ritual.

She lost interest as quickly
As any other once-inspired child,
And many years without crocheted chains passed
Before a spark of inspiration woke her from her daze.

Timid hands picked up threadbare yarn, dusted with age.
Fingers moved as if possessed,
Creating chains came so easily
And her inner child was elated by the familiarity
Of her once daily routine.

The desire to unwind, to unfurl
Pulled so strong within her,
But the necessity
To create, to give life, to build something that matters
Overcame all else.

She kept making chains.
She made chains and then kept working.
She kept building on the foundation
To create something strong
Something useful
Something beautiful for herself.
For herself, she kept creating.

Where We Came From

Let’s reminisce

About the days

When we were old enough

To know better

But young enough

Not to care.

When we spent

Our hard earned money

On temporary satisfaction

Gone as soon

As they’d been obtained.

Liquid courage

To get us through

The days to come-

And the only things

We have to show

For our mistakes

Are the friendships

That made us stronger

And the lessons

We’ll never forget.

City Lights

Everything glitters

From motion

From life.

Watch the world

Move around us

As we sit in silence

Thinking about time.

The time when

We discussed the page

We were on

In the book

Of our relationship,

And we ageed

On page 314.

Or when we drove

Through the night

Straight ’til morning

And we struggled

To stay awake together

But pulled through

To watch the sunrise.

We’ve seen so many

Sunrises

And sunsets

And city lights.

And here we are

Watching the lights blur

Past us in a flurry

As we sit

Picture perfect

With my head on your shoulder

And your arm around my waist

Pulling me close

Holding me tight

Forever frozen

In this moment.

Warmth

You are irresistible with

Those thoughtful eyes

That shadowed smile

And the way you say

“I love you.”

A treat.

Comfort.

I’m drinking you in

Like a warm mug

Of lightly sweetened tea

On a cold winter day.

Cuddle up with me

Like a weighted blanket.

Warm my body

My mind

And my soul.

Wanting To Be Alone

I’m holding on to you,

My dear,

I’ll never let you go.

But what if space

Is what I need? I may be

Here, physically,

But my presence isn’t present.

I love you

Don’t you love me?

Yes, but I

Love myself more.

Alias

Always running from one mission to the next

Looking for the dangerous radicals across the globe

I change my name, I change my face, I move from place to place

And using my training to apprehend suspects

Soundly do my job to save the world.

Fortune Cookie Fun

  • Listen to your heart and it will lead you to where you want to be. Listen to your mind and it will lead you to where you need to be.
  • Not everything lackluster is worthless.
  • Your personality is the mirror of your mind.
  • Your body is the vessel for your soul. Treat both with respect.
  • Be positive today, repeat tomorrow.
  • Be honest with yourself and you’ll never be wrong.
  • The ability to admit defeat is an admirable character trait that few have.
  • Everyone believes they are right until they’re proven wrong.
  • Life is meant for learning lessons and passing it on.
  • End everything with a positive message.

NaPoWriMo prompt for day 21. I had a lot of fun coming up with these fortunes. Now does anyone have a good recipe for the fortune cookie itself? 😉

Thank you for your continued support!

Life Lessons

Bring me life

I’ll take away your pain

If you forget about our strife

And think of all you have to gain

As you watch days go by

Looking at a mirrored self

You say with a sigh

That life is more than wealth

And that when I grew older

If I remember this, I’ll see

Instead of getting colder

In winter I’ll have someone loving me.

Restoration Angel

When you came into my life

You sent my tattered self away

To bring me back; restored

As a new being.

Golden follicles flowing in the wind

That your wings created

Beating against the sky like a heartbeat

Giving life where their tips touched.

You came to me,

Kept me safe within your hold

Rescued me, restored me

And saved me,

my Restoration Angel.
