The Moon Speaks to Me

Through shuttered windows

I can glimpse her beauty

She’s surrounded by a haze of light

The grace she expresses glows

We all wonder at her strength

To hold herself up

Alone

Every night

Just for us

Watching over us

Silently sleeping in her wake.

These late night conversations are brief

But I whisper to her

Secret sentences

She’s longed to hear

Since the beginning of time.

“You are appreciated, even in our slumber.

Thank you for letting us rest.”

And through the shutters

She smiles.

In a Jar

Bottled sand

With honey in the sky

Oozing in the distance

With the sun

Setting on the horizon-

What a sight.

Tip the bottle

Uncorked

And watch the

Sand, sea, sun

Tumble out in waves.

New

A metamorphosis

Shedding skin

Beauty

And youthful wonder

To gain something more mature.

It’s not abandoning the old

But keeping it in a memory box

Pulling out the past

To renew

Become anew.

Snow Flurries

Your chilled heart

Races through the wind

To surround me.

Your tender kisses

On my cheeks melt,

A lingering damp greeting.

Let me warm you

As I mold your body

With my fingertips

Until the chill makes them numb-

You’re so beautiful,

I can’t resist the urge

To touch.

A Piece of You

Age allows vanity-

Put your best face forward

And show your grace and grin.

Feeling like a million bucks

With someone else’s hair.

It’s the only way I knew you

And you were loving

And perfect.

What a shock that those faux locks

Weren’t yours,

But it changed nothing.

It’s been years,

And yet, I wonder…

Were you buried whole

Or is your pièce de résistance missing?

Ocean Waves, Part 2

Our visit was brief

But necessary.

It was good to

Get back to my roots-

Seeing you

Brought back so many memories.

Hearing you call out to me

Made me feel like a toddler

Stumbling over their feet

When they’re learning to walk,

But trusting

That you’ll be there

To catch them

When they fall.

Thank you for reminding me

Of who I am-

The strength I was born with.

Our bittersweet goodbyes

Will not last forever.

I leave,

Walking away

With sand trailing behind me,

But turn back

For one last glance.

Just in time

To watch you wave.

Rain

Isn’t it amazing

How the simplicity

Of water

Falling

Has the ability to

Purify the transgressions of the world

And set our minds at ease

To start anew?

The act of falling-

A devastating blow-

Occurs before we build

Ourselves back up.

Lovely Lady

You may be beautiful,

But what more do you have?

With looks, but no money?

I’ll pay you for your worth.

Some coins for your teeth

Royal with their pearly crowns.

A dozen dollars for your hair

Locks of their own without being captured by keys.

I gave you freedom from your looks

In exchange for a human toy.

Yes, you’re a lovely lady, doll.

Sing Me A Song

Chirping perching sing me  song

Birds singing through the dusk and dawn

Show them singing is never wrong

Chirping! Perching! … Sing me a song!

Just keep on singing all day long

‘Til beauty has overcome brawn

Chirping… Perching… Sing me a song

Birds, singing through the dusk… and dawn.

Irregular Apocalypse

It started with one

A single caterpillar was infected

With beauty

It grew like normal

And transformed like normal

And became a butterfly.

This butterfly was pulchritudinous, as usual,

But when it came to mating,

It laid thrice as many eggs.

Caterpillars turned butterflies-

Leaves being demolished by ugly little insects

Turning into beautiful monsters

Flying throughout the sky.

The skies were made of wings,

The ground covered in dead grass

Due to the aesthetic apocalypse.
