Prodigy

Fate took control

A force to be noted

Unfolded from the start

Of an unknown tune-

A pick against taut strings

Rock the house of our future

Transforming into a dance floor,

Den of movement,

For which we travel through

Until the court rules

Whether our lives

Will be forever intertwined.

Private Concert

When you see the massive black headphones

Enveloping ears with the booming bass

And powering the soul with a newfound life force,

Imagine the concert taking place

In the venue between

An ever-changing dance floor

With a party that never stops supplying energy.

You can see the effect and feel its presence-

The music taking your pain away

Freeing your soul from the pressures of your life

And makes you unstoppable.

You can hear the emotion present in the tremble

Of staccato notes like hiccups before a breakdown.

Your judgment is worth nothing

To the power of music held within,

So push it aside

And enjoy your private show

Of an artist getting lost in their work.

On My Mind

Midnight thoughts

Intrude on seductive sleep

And push it away,

Pulling my mind

Into a late night tango

Of past moments and parallels.

This exhausting dance,

My body moving to the tempo,

Keeps moving to the music

Until my legs can’t keep up.

These thoughts,

These nights,

These unforgettable moments

Make for mental messes

To be ignored- an insomniac’s gift-

Until the next late night

Where my mind won’t stop dancing

To the beats of the past.

In the Air

Welcomed by wires

Vocals and vibrations

Timbres, tones, tunes

Singing songs

Incorporating instruments

To create the sounds

That whisper sonnets in the air

Healing the hearts of broken lovers

And curing loneliness through the creation

Of a unity of individuals.

Cleopatra

She swings and she sways

To the trill of the piano,

With a facade of blonde hair

And the red lips of a vixen

To hide the fear held in her eyes

Of the terminal illness

Dancing in her veins

From dusk ’til dawn.

Indecisive Tango

In front of me

You stand

In black and white

A 50’s dream

With suit-clad arms by your side

Raising up

As if lifted by clouds

To rest on my generous hip

And outstretched hand

As the music begins.

Behind me

Stands my past

With magnified eyes

Waiting for me to get lost

In the distraction of music

And misstep

Landing a sharp-as-a-knife-heel

In the heart of your foot

So they can shout

I KNEW SHE WOULD HURT YOU!

But what’s behind you?

I can’t see

For the room is too dark

From the extinguishing sneers of my past

Reducing the fiery passion

Creating tension between your body

And my own.

But I want to know so badly

Regardless of how hard you try

To stand in my way

I’ll step to the right

And see your face

I’ll step to the left

And you’re there with me.

Hold me close until the song ends

Until then,

We’ll keep dancing

In time and rhythm

Side to side.
