Where We Came From

Let’s reminisce

About the days

When we were old enough

To know better

But young enough

Not to care.

When we spent

Our hard earned money

On temporary satisfaction

Gone as soon

As they’d been obtained.

Liquid courage

To get us through

The days to come-

And the only things

We have to show

For our mistakes

Are the friendships

That made us stronger

And the lessons

We’ll never forget.

The Danger of Falling in Love

Fingers laced

Hearts paced

About to kiss, my mind slips

My heart skips

As the truth nears

And all my fears disappear

When you pull me back

To the reality I lack

As your thumb traces my chin

I can’t help but grin as you pull me in

I admit defeat and our lips meet.

The magical sensation

Of instant gratification.

I must have hit my head falling for you

In this world that is brand new.

Mirrors

Don’t look.

Just walk right by-

Quickly

Before your eyes lock

On the reflection

That isn’t yours.

She looks like you,

But she’s grinning a toothy smile

While your lips are pressed tight.

Her gaze holds you-

And before you know it

You’re leaning closer…

Hands reach out from the glass

Grab you

Force your head to make impact with the mirror-

Shattering

Rings in your ears as

Your

World

Crashes

Down

Around

You…

The Unexpected

It is cold

Dreary damp and dark

Nothing to keep me company

But the absence of

Your smiles as a tickle touches your sides

Brought from unexpected fingers

Your eyes as they stare deeply into mine

Telling each other secrets of their own

Your hand grasping mine

A lifeline holding me next to you

Grounded in our world

Your laugh as it sings melodies into the air

A tune I would often long to hear

You. Only a memory

That I can’t hold on to

Beyond this journey

From life to… The unexpected.

You’re alive while I’m here.

You are lost to me

But I”ll be here

Waiting for you to join me.

Greet you with

All the joys we once shared.

You will find me

And we will

Never be lost again.

Growing Older

A child’s mind cracked open wide

For learning and growing

Walking all alone, their own stride

With confidence showing.

But soon they will grow much too big

And forget their own self.

They will have to search hard and dig,

Wiping dust off the shelf.

They will look back with a smile

On all the things they learned-

How could they forget? A long while…

My, how the tables turned!

Sing Me A Song

Chirping perching sing me  song

Birds singing through the dusk and dawn

Show them singing is never wrong

Chirping! Perching! … Sing me a song!

Just keep on singing all day long

‘Til beauty has overcome brawn

Chirping… Perching… Sing me a song

Birds, singing through the dusk… and dawn.

Spring Hands

Spring is like a perhaps hand

With fine lines that grow

After white Winter has thawed

To create warmth

And defrost you.

This hand creates life

When touching nature

And perhaps will bring smiles to pleasant neighbors.

This hand is weathered

And perhaps quite old,

But this hand brings us youth annually.

Yes, perhaps Spring is like a hand.

Young Love

A girl

That dreamed of men

Strong enough to support her

Fell in love with a boy

That needed to be uplifted

To feel loved.

A boy

Who never wanted to grow up

Or stop having fun

Fell in love with a girl

Who grew up much too fast

And never looked back at her youth.

A girl and a boy

Met and fell in love

And, together,

They were everything

They ever needed.

Innocence

We are born with it

And grow with it

It helps us discover new pleasures

And worlds

We never knew existed

Our worlds become corrupt

Poisoning our minds with reality

As we grow older

Until we cannot see the fantasy world

Of our past

Our rose colored glasses

Have turned gray

And we have lost it

Until it finds our children

When they are brought

Into a brand new world.

Persephone Corrupted

A young girl

With no other passion than beauty:

Flowers.

She pranced among them

And picked the ones that stood out against the rest.

Until one day

There was a flower like no other

That she had ever seen before.

She was drawn to its colors, it’s beauty

And ran from her guard

In a moment of distraction.

She plucked the flower straight from the ground

But alas, it would not break free of it’s deep roots.

Little did she know, it was a trick

And Hades wanted to claim her as his own.

She tugged and tugged.

Heaved and pulled until it sprung free

And the earth opened up below her

And Hades took her deep down into the dark underworld

That belonged to him.

She was miserable at first,

Upset that there was no beauty in this cold, dark place.

But she became hungry and weak

And she took a bright red pomegranate

plucked a seed, and popped it into her mouth

Causing her to be stuck in the underworld forever.

Demeter did weep,

For she missed her lovely daughter.

She could not find her for the sun had not seen her-

He was sleeping that day.

And she had not been carried away by the winds-

They were her friends and swore they would not harm her.

Finally, she was found

And she was safe

And a deal was made

Where she could come from the underworld

Visit her mother once a year

But all the rest of the time be stuck with her lover

And left to her demise.

Soon this became too much,

Guarding the damned souls,

The burden was too great.

But something changed her

And she began to enjoy it.
