A Glance at the Stars

A glance at the stars in the

Middle of the city,

And the sky is shining brighter

Than I remember-

I suddenly feel so small.

A glance at the stars while we

Play outside at night;

Nothing to guide us home

Except their light,

Feeling protected in their presence.

________________________

A glance at the stars on the

Night we met

Their grace instilling hope.

I smile up at the sky,

Knowing they’re smiling back.

________________________

A glance at the stars with a

Heavy heart and the ghosts of tears

On my face. I can’t see you

But I feel you, wherever you are,

Comforting me like you always have.

A Piece of You

Age allows vanity-

Put your best face forward

And show your grace and grin.

Feeling like a million bucks

With someone else’s hair.

It’s the only way I knew you

And you were loving

And perfect.

What a shock that those faux locks

Weren’t yours,

But it changed nothing.

It’s been years,

And yet, I wonder…

Were you buried whole

Or is your pièce de résistance missing?

Viper

Her scales-

       A delicate balance

       Between  lust&grace

       And a fatal endless agony

Smooth to the touch

Thick as the fear and desire

Her forked tongue tastes

In the air.

She’s beautiful

And she’s got her sights set on you.

She’s poised

Statuesque

But before you know it

She strikes

Leaving you

Without the hope of survival.

In Memoriam

High notes ring softly

In a repetitive rhythm

Encouraging the bass to bellow.

Together they play

In perfect harmony

In perfect cacophony

A welcoming sound

I’ve known for years.

The dependent treble falters…

Then frenzies until it unexpectedly ceases-

An angelic absence

Leaving the bass notes to calmly tremble,

A deep

Resounding

Heartbeat.

A familiar song

I’ll never forget.

For my Grandmother,

You’ll always be in our hearts

The Motel Room

The Motel Room

Despite the haunting front cover and the subject matter within, “The Motel Room” is not a horror story. Alyssa Cooper delivers a wonderfully crafted short story about life, and how even the absence of life can be seen as beautiful.

A tragic accident has occurred, leaving a man’s soul stuck inside the Motel Room where he and his wife used to spend their anniversary. Nobody can see him, so his days go by in a blur. Every day seeming just like the one before it. Through a series of events, he begins to discover his true power and realizes how freeing “living” without a body can truly be. He discovers happiness by abandoning his sadness and rediscovering the beauty that the world holds. Truly a heartbreaking tale about the journey of a soul!

I can’t wait to read more by Alyssa Cooper! 10/10

Waiting

The sound of metal colliding rings in my ears

And all I see is white.

The stretcher, the walls,

The bright light calling to me

As I scream for you.

Lying five feet away,

You’re so close

But these walls separating us

Keep me from whispering your name…

From trying to hold your once warm body

In my decaying arms.

I’ve lost all hope of being with you

As I lie here, waiting for an eternity to pass

Inside a plot under a headstone.

Seeing Ghosts

Every time I turn around

I see you standing there.

You appeared without a sound

And at a glance, filled me with fear.

A blurred silhouette just standing

In the center of the room…

In my head is branding

An uneasy feeling of doom.

I know that I’m the only one

Who can see your kind,

But only after you’re already gone

I realize it’s only in my mind.

The End of Days

Raise your hand to the sky

With liquid as red as life

Pulsing in the shattered glass.

Make a toast to the Gods

To bring you serenity

As you sacrifice your soul for pleasure.

Say goodbye to your lover

As the knife pierces your skin

And the blood flows eternally

Until the end of days.

Demise

I see a girl with emerald eyes

That glisten and ensnare

The world with it’s skies

Without the slightest care,

Free from what’s soon to destroy her.

I see a girl with eyes so cool

For they’ve seen the world fall

To armies so cruel

That they’ll take it all

Away for the chance to entrap her.

I see you with your eyes cast down

A single glance and I peruse

A distinctly permanent frown

From the emotional abuse

That you let yourself go through.
