City Lights

Everything glitters

From motion

From life.

Watch the world

Move around us

As we sit in silence

Thinking about time.

The time when

We discussed the page

We were on

In the book

Of our relationship,

And we ageed

On page 314.

Or when we drove

Through the night

Straight ’til morning

And we struggled

To stay awake together

But pulled through

To watch the sunrise.

We’ve seen so many

Sunrises

And sunsets

And city lights.

And here we are

Watching the lights blur

Past us in a flurry

As we sit

Picture perfect

With my head on your shoulder

And your arm around my waist

Pulling me close

Holding me tight

Forever frozen

In this moment.

Ocean Waves, Part 1

I yearn to be in your presence,

Feel the warmth you provide

Just from being near.

Cleanse my soul

While I drink in your essence

Upon my return

And soak you in.

I promise to visit soon

And we’ll converse

In our own language-

A code

Made up

Of whispers and secrets-

I’ll tell you of all my travels

And listen to your tales

Of everything you’ve witnessed

From around the world.

I can’t wait to see you again…

I’ll catch a glimpse of you in the distance

And you’ll wave,

Just like you always do,

Welcoming me home.

Pay It Forward

Anyone who is looking for help

On their darkest days

Or even in their happiest of times

Does not deserve to suffer.

The act of seeking support

Shows a desire to change

A hunger for growth

A passion to live their lives

In the best way possible.

The pursuit of self enlightenment

Finding one’s purpose

And traveling through the

Hills and valleys of life

With their dignity in tact

Is reached through

Helping others

So they can build their foundation

And support themselves

And helping yourself

Be the best version of you.

Happy Father’s Day to all of the Dad’s out there! This poem was inspired by my dad. He is the most giving person that I know, and has helped more people than I can count. My family continues to inspire me and teach me lessons about life, and I couldn’t have asked for better support.

Journey

She wanted to see the world

See the ocean crashing on foreign sands,

The architecture of religion,

Accents in the cafes.

She promised to see the world

Dine with the Queen

Safari, Sahara, Sayonara

A journey from North America to anywhere else…

But her passport was expired.

The World We Live In

Straight past the busy street

With cars as fast as a shooting star

Blurring past you in the night

To the quiet neighborhood

With houses lined up side by side

Sleeping next to one another

For warmth, comfort, strength in numbers.

The dull glow of the street light

Takes place above the neighborhood

As if it were a glowing planet

Keeping watch, keeping us safe.

Turn right down the winding road

That slithers like a snake

Passing more sleeping houses

With the occasional dim television night light.

One more right will lead you to

Transplanted palm trees reaching out to the heavens

With birds resting in the palm frond fingers

And cats prowling the trodden earth

With hungry eyes- disturbed by the

Put-put-puttering of an old

Busted white Chevy blundering down the street.

Pass the park that preserves youth

And you’ll find yourself at a crossroads

Ahead of you (and even behind you)

Lies a quiet neighborhood slumbering

Looming in the unknown darkness.

Look to the left, now to the right

And see the street stretching before your eyes

Overpowering lights reflect from your eyes to my own

As you stare at me with wonder

At the beauty of this place where we live.

You take my hand and together we are

Launched into space on a trip to the unknown.

Journey

I’ll let my thoughts

Take me on a journey

With no expectations

So they will not disappoint.

They’ll come to me

When I least expect it

And lift me up

So high

That buildings

Cannot contain my spirits.

They’ll take me to new places

With enough spare time to explore-

A forest

That houses my memories,

An ocean

That holds my heart,

A mountain

That captures my soul-

Allowing me to find myself.

But when I least expect it

They’ll drop me

And I’ll tumble

And fall

All the way back to earth

With a rough landing

In reality.

Let’s See The World

A journey, just for you and me?

I never thought I would get to see

The world, with you holding my hand

Guiding me for my first time on new land

And I’ve never felt so great.

I’ve seen places I never thought I would

While trying things I never thought I could

All the while with you by my side

Joining me for my wildest ride

And I’ve never felt so free.

I didn’t know what I would feel

Being this far from home, but I feel so real

This new world, so liberating and free

Has allowed you to see the real me

And I’ve never felt more at ease.
