The Choice

A fork in the road

_____________________

One beaten by low blows to myself

That showed me second choices

Aren’t that bad

When you can teach

The future

Even if you end up

Used, not working,

And without experience

Except pleasing your audience of one.

The other path has sunlight streaming

Through forested windows

In trees as tall as my hopes-

The future

I always dreamed I’d have

Of big cities

And even bigger success

Lies at the end of the path

A prize to be taken

For taking myself seriously.

And yet,

I’d still rather take the path

Filled with second chances.

Wanting To Be Alone

I’m holding on to you,

My dear,

I’ll never let you go.

But what if space

Is what I need? I may be

Here, physically,

But my presence isn’t present.

I love you

Don’t you love me?

Yes, but I

Love myself more.

The Broken Doll

She sits on the wooden shelf

An unwelcome grin etched on to her face

As the people around her

Mill around the house

Go about their day

And pay her no attention.

She waits

Patiently with her stiff limbs

Hoping all day

Today’s the day

When they come home

They’ll pick me up off of the shelf

And play with me.

The hour arrives,

The family trudges in

One

By

One

And they begin to mill around the house

And go about the rest of their day

Without a glance at the shelf

Where the doll sits by herself

Waiting for love.

Nightmares on the Wings of Angels

Alone with her thoughts,

She slips-

She dreams of a world

High above where

Everything is beautiful.

Darkness cowers in shadows while

Regal angels soar with

Elegance

And grace

Making music while children

Sleep soundlessly nearby…

Home. This is their home. The

Envy she feels can’t be suppressed and

Rears it’s devilish head (awakening hidden demons).

Nothing is safe

In this godforsaken He(aven)ll with

Gnarled angels snarling and reaching out to

Her with knife-like claws

To trace sermons on her

Marble skin, marring it

And crushing her bones to make her

Red rivered veins

Emerge

Shredded in disarray.

“Come here, darling” sighs an

Oil-slick voice

“My children wait to feast on your

Every fear.”

Alone, she stands on

Legs of paper

In the presence of subjective demons

Viciously awaiting her

Encouraged extinction.

Cloud 9

Paint your face like a Monet

Your cheeks blushing like pink roses

Whip up your hair like a chocolate souffle

Pinned to your head like a ballerina

Step into your heels like a limousine

With poise like an A-list celebrity

Let’s go dancing like a couple in love

I’ll treat you like the woman you deserve

Slip out of that dress like a new beginning

And we’ll go to sleep like we’re stuck in a dream.

Dreaming of Reality

If you dream a dream of laughter

With heavy giggles falling from the sky

You will wake from bed soon after

Where peacefully sleeping bodies will lie.

If you dream a dream full of tears

Spilling from your eyes like blood from a wound

You will wake alone with your fears

Forever by yourself, forever doomed.

An Odd Dream

The slumber had started
But I was unaware-
It was my birthday
Though I thought it too soon.

I was told to invite who I pleased
But I forgot

Only a few were expected to show
But where?
And who?
And why, again?

I put my dog in my purse
To keep her from the cold
And traveled to my destination.

I arrived on time
But all alone.
I sat in a booth
By myself
Eating, drinking
In solitude.

I opened my purse to pay
And there lie my dog
Snoring silently.

I realized I was never alone
And never would be-
Before I awoke
Confused.
