The Broken Doll

She sits on the wooden shelf

An unwelcome grin etched on to her face

As the people around her

Mill around the house

Go about their day

And pay her no attention.

She waits

Patiently with her stiff limbs

Hoping all day

Today’s the day

When they come home

They’ll pick me up off of the shelf

And play with me.

The hour arrives,

The family trudges in

One

By

One

And they begin to mill around the house

And go about the rest of their day

Without a glance at the shelf

Where the doll sits by herself

Waiting for love.

Dreaming of Reality

If you dream a dream of laughter

With heavy giggles falling from the sky

You will wake from bed soon after

Where peacefully sleeping bodies will lie.

If you dream a dream full of tears

Spilling from your eyes like blood from a wound

You will wake alone with your fears

Forever by yourself, forever doomed.

Fade Away

Cherubic smiles

Pinched pink blossomed cheeks

With springy hair

Amateur limbs

And inhibitions.

Slanted smiles

Red rushed rosy faces

While taming tangles

With experienced limbs

And imaginary invincibility.

Frowning

Gray

Lifeless

Flaccid

And Deteriorating.

Faces fading

Along with memories

Until nothing precedes you

And your soul succumbs.

Aging Wisdom

He used to be so strong

But gravity and time

Have done their worst-

Pulling on his skin

Stretching it

Making it sag

Before replacing it

Back onto his face, his body

Making him look aged

Well beyond his years.

He used to be an extrovert

Easygoing and outgoing

But his age is catching up with him

While his friends and family

Leave him behind-

Left to fend for himself

Without company

Or even a helping hand.

He used to be naive

But life has been rough on him-

He has struggled

And strived for success

As he wares himself out

Working hard to obtain

The American Dream

Gone are his looks

Youth and innocence

Replaced with the wisdom of an experienced man.
