The Choice

A fork in the road

_____________________

One beaten by low blows to myself

That showed me second choices

Aren’t that bad

When you can teach

The future

Even if you end up

Used, not working,

And without experience

Except pleasing your audience of one.

The other path has sunlight streaming

Through forested windows

In trees as tall as my hopes-

The future

I always dreamed I’d have

Of big cities

And even bigger success

Lies at the end of the path

A prize to be taken

For taking myself seriously.

And yet,

I’d still rather take the path

Filled with second chances.

Successfully Green

It drives you

Moving upward

And onward

Fueling your energy

With enlightening ideas

On greatness

As you grow

And grow

Until the day

Your high spirits are so large

You can’t fit in your wallet

And you move onward

And outward.

Life Changes

So you want to be happy, but don’t know how?

Well here’s the reason why:

You’re too distracted with the thought

Of skin rubbing, thigh to thigh

And stop telling yourself that things will change on their own

Because you know that’s a lie

You have to ignore the naysayers

Critiquing you as you walk by

That’s the first step to accepting

A brand new way of life

And changing your habits one by one

Slowly saying goodbye

To the you that you used to be

And hello

To the you

That has reached

The sky.

Aging Wisdom

He used to be so strong

But gravity and time

Have done their worst-

Pulling on his skin

Stretching it

Making it sag

Before replacing it

Back onto his face, his body

Making him look aged

Well beyond his years.

He used to be an extrovert

Easygoing and outgoing

But his age is catching up with him

While his friends and family

Leave him behind-

Left to fend for himself

Without company

Or even a helping hand.

He used to be naive

But life has been rough on him-

He has struggled

And strived for success

As he wares himself out

Working hard to obtain

The American Dream

Gone are his looks

Youth and innocence

Replaced with the wisdom of an experienced man.
