Cloud 9

Paint your face like a Monet

Your cheeks blushing like pink roses

Whip up your hair like a chocolate souffle

Pinned to your head like a ballerina

Step into your heels like a limousine

With poise like an A-list celebrity

Let’s go dancing like a couple in love

I’ll treat you like the woman you deserve

Slip out of that dress like a new beginning

And we’ll go to sleep like we’re stuck in a dream.

You Make Me Feel

There’s nothing in our world

But you and I

And feelings

Of love

That we have for each other

Used as currency

Of happiness

For the way you claim

I make you feel with a smile

Of togetherness

Because nothing here matters

Except us

But that’s because this is your fantasy

You can’t see past

Your insecurities holding you back-

A home made jail cell

Your negativity

Repelling me from your needs and desires

Criticizing me for the person I’ve become

When you remain unchanged

But most of all

Secluding me

And creating a rift

The biggest feeling of which

Is one of

Not belonging.

Stepford Smile

Perfect pearly periodontals

Plastered on a fresh-faced full frontal

With ruby red luscious lips

And a gallant gaze that never slips.

Powdered cherub-chiseled cheeks

And long slender legs that go on for weeks

Hold together this petite plastered shell

And a bosom that creates thoughts from Hell.

She’s a molding of God’s greatest creation

The epitome of human perfection-

But you must be careful, do not break her!

For she’s hollow within, she has no center.

The Unexpected

It is cold

Dreary damp and dark

Nothing to keep me company

But the absence of

Your smiles as a tickle touches your sides

Brought from unexpected fingers

Your eyes as they stare deeply into mine

Telling each other secrets of their own

Your hand grasping mine

A lifeline holding me next to you

Grounded in our world

Your laugh as it sings melodies into the air

A tune I would often long to hear

You. Only a memory

That I can’t hold on to

Beyond this journey

From life to… The unexpected.

You’re alive while I’m here.

You are lost to me

But I”ll be here

Waiting for you to join me.

Greet you with

All the joys we once shared.

You will find me

And we will

Never be lost again.

Ode to Paper

Lines provided to me

On sheet white skin

To inscribe words upon.

Let me dispose my

Thoughts at my will.

Let me scribble, scratch

Or possible erase them;

But you may keep

The ones you like.

I hope my pen

Is as kind to

You as you are

To my general well-being.

You deserve a life

Of decent words passionately

Filling your body with

Their grace. But do

Not let them possess

You or overcome you.

For your beauty and

Potential are of one

That deserves to be

Shared with the world.

Mother

She knows me

For she shows me

How I should be

How I could be.

And she’s caught me

And she’s taught me

What I could know

What I should know.

But here I am,

Alone, I am-

So I’ll cry (not for a lover)

For my mother.

Indecisive Tango

In front of me

You stand

In black and white

A 50’s dream

With suit-clad arms by your side

Raising up

As if lifted by clouds

To rest on my generous hip

And outstretched hand

As the music begins.

Behind me

Stands my past

With magnified eyes

Waiting for me to get lost

In the distraction of music

And misstep

Landing a sharp-as-a-knife-heel

In the heart of your foot

So they can shout

I KNEW SHE WOULD HURT YOU!

But what’s behind you?

I can’t see

For the room is too dark

From the extinguishing sneers of my past

Reducing the fiery passion

Creating tension between your body

And my own.

But I want to know so badly

Regardless of how hard you try

To stand in my way

I’ll step to the right

And see your face

I’ll step to the left

And you’re there with me.

Hold me close until the song ends

Until then,

We’ll keep dancing

In time and rhythm

Side to side.

Let’s Run Away

I’ve never seen you before,

I don’t know you-

And yet

If you told me

You see me

Like the silver lining

On your ever present

Gloomy cloud

You hear me

Like the wind

Whispering the secrets

Of life into your ear

You feel me

Like your heartbeat

As your blood rushes

Through your veins

You know me

Like the abandoned home

You lived in through your adolescence

With the fondest memories

I’d drop

e v e r y t h i n g

Leave it all (behind)

At the chance

Of running away with you

For the rest

Of

Our

Lives.

Abomination

How do you loathe me? I forbid you count the ways!

You loathe me to the shallow and short lengths

Your body engages with abandon, when in sight

Against the beginnings of nonexistence and imperfect cruelty

You loathe me from the rear of never night’s

Subtle rule, by moon and natural light

You loathe me strictly, as women abandon immorality

You loathe me pollutedly, as I unbend after scolding.

You loathe me without the leniency you call to use

On your new joys, and without my experienced denial

You loathe me with a hatred you existed to create

Without your newfound saints. You loathe me with a choke,

Frown, laughter of your demise; and, if the devil declines me

You shall but loathe me worse during our next life.

Let Me Count The Ways…”; which can be found here http://www3.amherst.edu/~rjyanco94/literature/elizabethbarrettbrowning/poems/sonnetsfromtheportuguese/howdoilovetheeletmecounttheways.html
