Feline

Eyes as green as

The hungry grass

That sways from the rhythm

Of the summer breeze.

Long hair flowing

And sometimes peeking out

From ever-conscious ears.

A look of curiosity

Plays on her face

And kisses her nose

As she almost smirks.

Green eyes peering

At green eyes that belong to me.

We are different,

But we are one.

Arriving By Train

I saw you

Through the window

Of broken promises

Stained with teardrops.

But maybe I was wrong-

For you weren’t sad,

but smiling.

Although your eyes

May have met blissful tears

It was not they

Who stained the window

But merely raindrops

Of a fresh day.

Our promises

Since repaired

Can hold the weight

Of the gaze we share.

Eyes that meet

Not for the first time,

But again.

As motion comes to a halt

Thoughts spring into action

And cause me to yell out to you:

I’ve returned, I’m all yours.

Release Me

Release me from your grip

On my spine

Where my bones are

Wavering under your strength

Your pressure

And trembling

From fear of being crushed.

On my shoulders

Where your hands have created

Sagging valleys

Filled with exhaustion

From the weight

You made them bare.

On my throat

Where a gasp escapes

From the despair-filled dwellings

Of my being.

Where your hands- enclosed

Force my last ragged breaths

And my hope

That drains.

I Know You As You Were

I know you as you were
With tears that met your iris
And poured out their being into my open palm
As you confessed your overwhelming love
For me for the first time.

I know you as you were
When the thought of seeing me
Brought joy and excitement,
A greeting when I entered the door
Or an everlasting hug when I entered yours.

I know you as you were
Grasping me and keeping me safe
From all of my ludicrous fears
Holding my hand in your own
Or folding me into your arms-
An origami beating heart.

I know you as you were
A man that stood on his own two feet
Not held up by the stilts of a woman
Wavering under your crushing weight
Of emotional instability.

I know you as you were
Loving with a selfless thought
Caring with open arms
Listening with an open heart
And being yourself while being mine.
