traded for housework
And new life goals

No more immature debauchery,
Finished with pearls,
Longer hemlines
And modest necklines.
I miss the days
Of reckless fun,
But I’ve moved up
And on
And traded it for self love
And you.

Every member an active participant
Of holding love in their arms
And virus-like happiness in their eyes
Contagious… spreading
To your own heart within minutes
And turns your recently icy demeanor
From the frost burns

Strong enough to support her
Fell in love with a boy
That needed to be uplifted
To feel loved.
A boy
Who never wanted to grow up
Or stop having fun
Fell in love with a girl
Who grew up much too fast
And never looked back at her youth.
A girl and a boy
Met and fell in love
And, together,
They were everything
They ever needed.
Shelter for animals in the wild
Keeping them safe and out of the cold.
A job for a large and hard working man
Trying to buy gifts for his children.
A symbol of bonding for parents and children
Searching for what will belong to them.
A scrapbook of memories
Time spent adorning with ornaments.
A celebration in the morning
To see the generosity of your family and friends.
A fire used to melt your heart and your hearth
And warm your house for visitors.
A mother who cares a little longer
A father who has grown up stronger
A brother who’s learned right from wrong
A lover with whom I know I belong
All of these added to my life’s shelf
Plus me, so I can be myself.
